Provision for the heart: prayer, Quran and remembrance

Draft with its sources, awaiting scholarly reviewUpdated 26 October 2026Our sources

Once the intention is sincere and the heart is cleansed, it needs what feeds it and keeps it firm: a present prayer, the Quran with reflection, and constant remembrance and istighfar. These acts of worship will be with you in the Haram, so make them steady before you arrive. Read each text slowly, look up its explanation in a trusted tafsir such as Ibn Kathir or al-Sa‘di, then choose at least one practical step.

Prayer, the coolness of the eyes

Successful indeed are the believers, those who are humble in their prayer.”

al-Mu’minun 23:1–2 · translation of the meaning · Quran.com

Practical step: Pray one prayer today with full calm, and learn the meaning of what you recite in it.

Humility and a present heart

Has the time not come for those who believe that their hearts should humble themselves at the remembrance of Allah?”

al-Hadid 57:16 · translation of the meaning · Quran.com

Practical step: Choose a short surah, read its tafsir, then pray with it.

Keeping company with the Quran

A blessed Book which We have sent down to you, so that they may reflect on its verses.”

Sad 38:29 · translation of the meaning · Quran.com

Practical step: Set a fixed daily portion, even two pages, and keep to it until your journey.

Remembrance of Allah, the life of the heart

Unquestionably, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

al-Ra‘d 13:28 · translation of the meaning · Quran.com

Practical step: Keep up the morning and evening adhkar, and have a dhikr for the road.

Seeking forgiveness

And I said: ask forgiveness of your Lord; indeed, He is ever Forgiving.”

Nuh 71:10 · translation of the meaning · Quran.com

Practical step: Ask Allah’s forgiveness a hundred times, and make some of it in the last part of the night.

A question for self-reckoning
